It takes a lot to be a mentor. Thinking mentoring as a profesión is a good idea but mentoring someone about the same thing you have been doing for years is very very dangerous specially if he has more abilities or capital than the mentor. So it’s a two way street. Anytime you wanna start mentoring you have to trust the person your teaching. And as Aristoteles said the human is a “social animal”. It’s a survival thing

I noticed that in your newer videos you are putting important concepts into words in the videos and wanted to say that its helpful and it makes the videos just that much better! I think that mentoring is showing a way of life, and is most beneficial coming from a mentor that actually lives his/her way of mentorship. A good mentor shows whoever they are mentoring why their way of life works well and it is the job of the mentor to make the mentee realize why they should be applying concepts and ideas to their own life.

I think consultant is like one or two times, like school consultant. Coach is like a short period of time, like gym coach. Mentor is the person who you can fully trust, you can learn a lot of things from this person, and also your life gets a huge impact by this person too, building a long-term relationship.

is Dan on demand, only for established businesses or can a fresh barely started business also benefit from it?

i’m just starting out my business consulting business and have only 2 clients, doing free consulting to get some feedback and initial results, but i want this to be my career, so i want to do it right and have it grow.

Well put, I’d never really thought about distinguishing between consulting, coaching, and mentorship before. Just off the cuff, I would say that

    1. Consulting is giving advice or teaching a skill.

    2. Coaching is also giving advice or teaching a skill, but it’s also enabling them to use that advice or skill by providing resources, helping their morale, challenging them, etc.

    3. Mentorship is a process of very involved coaching in the long term. It involves going back and forth between giving instruction and enabling students to use that instruction until they hit a brick wall. At which point a mentor goes back to instruction to work around that limit and takes more steps to enable. That back in forth continues for years until at some point both the student(s) and teacher realize their relationship has moved beyond coaching to mentorship.
